Iraklia

Iraklia

A very sparsely inhabited island in Cyclades, Iraklia comes to life during the months of July and August when the island’s Livadi Bay becomes dotted with numerous yachts.  This island is the perfect, untouched Greek destination you are looking for and sits amidst an everlasting, historic, mysterious spires and Venetian fortifications, temple ruins of the Hellenic-era and olive groves.  Iraklia island falls under the category of ‘lesser and small’ Cycladic islands such as Keros, Donoussa and Kato Koufonissi among others.  It is located among the islands of Amorgos, Ios and Naxos.

Iraklia comes with a little over 100 permanent inbabitants living either in Chora or in Agios Gergios village at the port.  The island does not have much to offer apart from true relaxation and  closeness to nature.  While you are here, you should visit its small pristine Cycladic island beaches and admire the turquoise waters.  Most of these can be reached on foot, making the island the best destination for free camping and trekking.  Here is what you need to know:

What to do in Iraklia

Activities to engage in Iraklia are very limited as the island is still far from organized tourism.  This leaves walking and swimming as the main activities you can tackle.  The beaches are along the coastline, totally secluded, giving you the maximum privacy you can wish for.  When wandering around Iraklia,  experience the picturesque and traditional vibes of the locals.
